Christine Nolfi does it again

Seeker w KW logoSince the Lei Crime Kindle World launch in April, Christine Nolfi’s, The Shell Keeper has spent much of that time in the number one spot of the Kindle World Contemporary category. The only book that has moved The Shell Keeper from that top spot, (which is on sale right now for less than a dollar!) is her second Lei Crime Kindle World novella, The Shell Seeker.

There’s a good reason Christine’s work has been hugging the top of the charts. Great settings, rich and lovely characters and an intriguingly magical story that takes Toby Neal’s vibrant character, Lei Texeira, to places Lei has never been. Here’s a description of The Shell Seeker.

In South Carolina, there’s more than magic in the air. Now policewoman Lei Texeira must solve the case of the Pirate Necklace.

The famed emeralds, spirited in the 1700s from the pirate Blackbeard’s ship, have been snatched once again. This time, the bling was taken from Marie-Therese Belvedere, a woman whose cruelty is only topped by her arrogance.

Lei doesn’t care for the icy socialite, but she feels an instant connection with the woman’s stepdaughter. An unlucky star has followed Sydney Belvedere her entire life. If the necklace isn’t found, she’ll lose a treasure more dear than the finest gem.

Only the magic of Lei’s intuition stands between Sydney and unspeakable loss.

Sounds great doesn’t it? I had to quiz Christine about her experience and get some insight into what drove her to keep writing in Toby Neal’s Lei Crime Kindle World.

Me: What did you learn from your first Lei Crime KW experience that has helped you with writing your latest piece?

Christine: The Shell Seeker continues the story in The Shell Keeper, taking Lei Texiera on yet another magical journey. The response from readers has been heartwarming.

Me: Is the second time around easier or harder for you?

Christine: No question—easier. In the first novella, I established the background for both stories and placed Lei squarely in a situation heavy with magical realism. The Shell Seeker is a sequel to The Shell Keeper. The story is quite a bit longer, introducing new characters and a crime that Lei must solve, in part, by using the magic of her feminine intuition.

Me: What have or would you tell authors who are thinking about writing a Lei Crime fan fiction?

Christine: Writing in a World allows a writer to reach new readers. No matter what genre you write, there’s a World to accommodate your style. I was thrilled to write in the Lei Crime Kindle World because I’m a huge fan of Toby Neal’s series—and of Toby. She’s one of the nicest (and most talented) author-publishers working today.

I’m such a fan of the Worlds concept that I wrote a blog post, “Should You Write in Kindle Worlds” explaining the benefits.

ME: Have you considered writing fan fiction for any other Kindle Worlds? If so, which ones?

Christine: I am tempted. After completing work on my new series, Heavenscribe, I may try my hand at something different—like Hugh Howey’s Sand or Lucy Kevin’s Four Weddings and a Fiasco.

HeavenScribe-2cMe: Does your Lei Crime KW story have any connection to your usual writing?

Christine: When Toby asked if I was interested in writing in her Lei Crime World, I knew from the get-go that I wouldn’t write a traditional police procedural. I’d begun dabbling in magical realism with my new series Heavenscribe and decided to use similar elements for my World stories. Judging from the reviews by readers, this was a good call.

Me: Both The Shell Seeker and The Shell Keeper have been #1 in contemporary and have stayed in that spot for a prolonged length of time. It's also the only Lei Crime KW story that is in the contemporary category and not mystery. Based on that, would you suggest future Lei Crime authors explore something other than mystery... like Scifi for example?

Christine: The Shell Seeker is a mystery wrapped in magic so, YES, other authors should extend Lei Crime past the usual police procedural-mystery genre. Part of the fun of writing a KW story? Taking the characters out of their usual genre into something else.

Me: Sounds so interesting. Do you think you have or will find new readers because of the KW experience?

Shell Keeper w logoChristine: Since the release of The Shell Keeper in April, I’ve received a lot of private mail from new readers who’ve gone on to download my other novels. A delight!

Thanks Christine! I loved The Shell Keeper which is on sale right now for less than a dollar. I have no idea how long that sale will last, so snag it as soon as possible before the price goes back up. I’m looking forward to digging into The Shell Seeker. Come back in a couple of weeks to see my review. In the meantime, here is more about Christine. 1. Ditto Christine. I'll be ready with a new one in October and with evidently, a whole new crop of authors! This experience has made the solitary act of writing much less lonely!
